Catalogue of Nabataean Pottery Pieces
In 1998 two Nabataean tombs were found, one on either side of the Ridge
Church in the centre of Petra, which was being excavated by the American
Center for Oriental Research (ACOR). Both were full of broken pottery and
all the unpainted pieces displayed here came from the same tomb, dating to
the first half of the first century A.D. The painted pieces also come from
the centre of Petra, one from the Great Temple excavations, also dating to
the first half of the first century and another from the excavations of
the Temple of the Winged Lions, dating to the third century A.D.
The collection presented here shows a sample of wares that were in daily
use by the inhabitants of Petra in its heyday.
