Gerti Bierenbroodspot is a Dutch painter who
first began painting as a young child in the studio
of her uncle, the famous painter Leo Gestel and went
on to complete her studies at the National Academy
of Art and the National Museum (Rijksmuseum)
Amsterdam. In the 1970's she travelled extensively
around the Mediterranean and established a studio in
France. Gerti first came to Petra in 1989, returning
frequently since then, for as she says, she felt
that in Petra she was walking into her own
paintings. She has also spent time in Palmyra and
Baalbeck, finding particular resonance in the
monumental presence in all these cities.
